Storefront windows hold local handmade objects and gifts, artisan food destinations dot the town, the world-renowned Chemainus Theatre operates year-round, the parks are lovingly adorned with carvings in homage to the culture of our heritage, and a slew of festivals and events seen throughout the year all hold those artistic elements close.

Because the murals are so walkable, we pride ourselves on accessibility. The town is an easy walk for seniors with many rest stops along the walking tour as well as being very wheelchair friendly. Most stores that are not directly at ground level offer ramps and switchbacks that aid in you being able to move freely throughout the town. Most of our parks, and the small trials within walking distance, also allow for the same accommodations. We implore you to go and explore.

Wander through the streets, peruse the town’s unique architecture and lose yourself in the Secret Gardens behind Willow Street. Along the way, you will see that every store you stop in holds unique artistry and originality you can’t find anywhere else.​ Chemainus is a town where dreams do come true, and a town where daily life is truly idyllic.

FOOD

From a café au lait to gourmet dishes and everything in between we have exactly what you enjoy. Dine at award-winning eateries ranging from funky sidewalk cafes, tearooms, bakeries and bistros to formal cuisine and specialty restaurants.

 

If you’re going for breakfast, you’ll be hard pressed to decide who’s scones you like better; for lunch, you may have to have two just because you can’t help yourself.
